Bilan énergétique de l'huître creuse (Crassostrea gigas) durant la période de forte croissance en mai en Baie de Marennes-Oléron (France) ArchiMer
Soletchnik, Patrick; Heral, Maurice; Razet, Daniel; Bougrier, Serge; Geairon, Philippe.
Ecophysiological study was conducted on the japanese oyster (Crassostrea gigas) reared in Marennes-Oléron bay (France), during May 1992. Most of the somatic growth of the oyster occured during that month. The measurements were achieved from a removable laboratory stated in Le Chapus for 3 days at different tide level (coefficient of 49, 57, and 88). The food conditions were monitored through a computer with a continuous record of the turbidity during aIl the tidal cycle. In spite of an important variation between the food conditions in mean seston load, from 13,5 to 54,6 mg/!, the available organic matter ranged from 3 to 4,9 mg/l. The rate of organic matter in the water ranged 22 % to 9 %. The organic selection efficiency was significantly higher for the...

Food consumption of fish in a sub-tropical SW Atlantic ecosystem off Brazil: comparison of four Sciaenid species ArchiMer
Soares, Lsh.
The first evaluations of the daily ration and population food consumption of four Sciaenid fish, under natural conditions for the Brazilian south-western Atlantic shelf (23degrees35'S, 45degrees00'W) are presented. The average daily ration ranged from 4.38 to 12.92 % body mass (90% confidence interval) for the juvenile shortfin corvina (Isopisthus parvipinnis), from 0.41 to 5.52 % body mass (90% confidence interval) for the juvenile shorthead drum (Larimus breviceps) and from 3.14% to 3.15% body mass for the juvenile whitemouth croacker (Micropogonias furnieri). Juveniles of the banded croacker (Paralonchurus brasiliensis) showed higher estimates (2.58-2.60% body mass) than those for the adults (1.2-1.84% body mass). The mean food consumption rate of the...

Grossissement de crevettes Penaeus japonicus dans les marais de l'Atlantique. Résultats des essais d'intensification 1986 à 1988 ArchiMer
Aqualive.
From 1986 to 1988 assays have been achieved in Noirmoutier IFREMER station aiming at increasing yield of grow-out of P. japonicus under semi-intensive conditions in earth ponds. Rearing methods were similar to those used in tropical areas, for other peneid species, and in Japan for this species. Yields of 130 to 270g/sq.m. were obtained, with final average weight of 15g. Marginal costs have been lower than marginal production in assays achieved in 4000sq.m. ponds. Pumps and aerators were necessary to achieve this increase in yield. This method is not appropriate in every part of Atlantic salted marshes

Seasonal budgets of organic matter in the Ubatuba shelf system, SE Brazil. I. Planktonic and benthic components ArchiMer
Rocha, Gra; Rossi-wongtschowski, Cldb; Pires-vanin, Ams; Jarre-teichmann, A.
Planktonic and benthic productivity and consumption were estimated to assess the availability of food to higher trophic-level consumers in the Ubatuba ecosystem on the SE coast of Brazil. The study area included waters from 10 to 100 m deep and covered 3800 km(2). The trophic compartments of the system were established on ecologically or taxonomically related species, considering their relative abundance and similarity of diets and habits. The compartments are phytoplankton, zooplankton, salps, bacterioplankton, cnidaria, polyplacophora, mollusca, carnivorous benthos, detritivorous polychaetes, other detritivorous benthos, penaeidea-caridea, brachyura, and echinodermata. Biomass, production, and consumption were estimated in summer and winter. Plankton...

The seafood markets in the northern mediterranean countries ArchiMer
Paquotte, Philippe; Guillard, Valerie.
A brief survey of the sea-food markets for the northern Mediterranean countries is presented, i.e. for Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Turkey. Then a comparative study between the markets belonging to the European Union is completed. Three of these countries (France, Italy and Spain) are characterised by a huge deficit in their external sea-products trade. Greece is almost balanced, but Portugal has been importing increasingly more over the last few years. About 45% of the imports come from the European Union. After many years of increasing value, we can now see a stabilisation in the fish price. Since 1977, the consumption of fresh products has been receding in favour of frozen and processed products. Cultured salmon and shrimp which...

Valorisation de la pêche artisanale de Saint Pierre et Miquelon : potentialités du marché local ArchiMer
Dewals, Jean-françois.
This thesis is part of the ATLANTILES program, which seeks to study the interactions between small-scale fishing, the historic sector of the archipelago of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon (SPM), and tourism, emerging sector. This work explores the ways in which seafood products from artisanal PMS fishing can be exploited on the local market. For this, it is organized in several parts. The first part presents the socio-demographic context of the archipelago and its influence on the local fishing sector. It highlights the important impact of COM status and the geographical position of the territory on the MPS fisheries sector. The second part of the paper introduces the characteristics of the local artisanal fishery and attempts to understand its interactions with...
